The Islanders used the long ball and some late inning clutch at bats to beat Canyon Crest 4-3 in 8 innings yesterday to advance to the Division III CIF Finals.
Down 2-0 to the Ravens in the 3rd, the Islanders clawed their way back one at bat at a time. Jack Harris’ solo homer in the bottom of the 3rd made the score 2-1. Trailing 3-1 in the in the bottom of the 4th, Harris hit another solo home run to make the score 3-2. The score remained 3-2 Ravens until the bottom of the 6th, when Briley Knight hit a solo home run to right field (a rare feat at the Sand Lot), tying the game at 3.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 8th, when the Islanders loaded the bases on a walk by Irigoyen, a bunt single by Fahrenthold, and a walk by Weller. That brought Jack Harris back to the plate for his fourth appearance of the game. Harris hit the second pitch through the left side of the Ravens infield to score Irigoyen from 3rd and move the Islanders into the CIF Division III Final.
The Islanders want to thank all of you that came out to support the team throughout the season. The Islanders were undefeated at home this year, finishing 16-0 at the Sand Lot. The Varsity team also set a school record for wins in a season with a 28-6 record. The home town crowds were a big part of that, particularly in this playoff run, and they sincerely appreciate your support.
The Islanders play Friday at 3:30pm at The University of San Diego’s (USD) Cunningham Stadium against Del Norte.
Come out Friday and support your team just one more time! Go Islanders!
