Each week, the City of Coronado City Manager’s Office provides an update that includes information on programs, services and issues within the City, as well as news, project updates and follow-up information when applicable. Featured below are highlights from that update. The entire City Manager’s Weekly Update can be found on the City’s website.
Christmas Tree Recycling: Christmas trees, including flocked trees, may be recycled by using either the green-waste curbside program or the drop-off program. For the green waste curbside program, place four-foot sections of tree in your yard waste recycling containers, or bundle tree sections together with twine (maximum four feet in length and 18 inches in diameter) and place on the curb. The other option is to bring your tree to one of two locations to drop-off. The first location is the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch Ramp parking lot and the other location is the Cays Sports Park parking lot. Look for the large roll-off dumpsters. Trees may be placed whole into these containers. No trash please. Pick-up will occur this year between December 28 and January 16. Here’s a link to a map of the drop-off locations. http://bit.ly/1JcMy5r
Sand Bags at the Cays: Rain appears in the forecast for much of next week. Are you ready? Coronado residents in need of sand bags may pick them up at First Street and Alameda Boulevard; Fourth Street and Alameda; at North Beach; and now in the Cays across the street from the Cays Fire Station.

Newly Planted Cedar Trees are Drought Victims: Some of the Deodar Cedars planted last year in the Orange Avenue Median Park are apparently victims of the reduced water and the hot, dry weather last winter, and this past spring and summer. The trees appeared distressed and experts were asked to evaluate the trees. The experts concluded the trees had insufficient water due to recent conservation efforts. In order to strengthen the trees, the City will install additional bubbler irrigation in the tree wells, add bark ground cover and deluge the young trees with water on a monthly basis. One tree that has already succumbed will be removed. A cool, wet winter will help Coronado’s urban forest.

Handrail Replacement at Avenida de las Arenas: The temporary barricades were removed this week, along with temporary storm drain protection devices. The contractor will return to the site in approximately two weeks once the last section of handrail to be replaced is ready for installation.
