Pasos Y Palmas 2015 brings the music and dance of Spain and Mexico to you — front and center stage at Coronado Center for the Performing Arts on November 7 at 7pm. Whether you choose to bring the whole family or just make it an intimate date night, a quick cultural escape refreshes the heart.
Spain and Mexico have both gifted the world with beautiful forms of kinetic art, Flamenco and Ballet Folklorico, respectively. DanzArts, a triad of companies, transforms audiences to the the small southern villages of the Iberian Peninsula were distinct body movements, facial expressions and the words of a song translate old, delicious stories of life and love. La Esencia Flamenca Dance Company debuts new choreography in their custom-made costumes created by our very own in house designer, Erika. Seasoned Musicians-Juan Moro, Agustin “El Moro,” Juan de Dios, and Oscar Valero are the featured artists weaving technically tight live music into the mix.
Afterward, Sabor Mexico Dance Company leaps onto the stage with joyous movements, festive skirts and spirited music. As you experience the journey through Mexico and Spain, Sabor Mexico dancers pay tribute to La Virgen de Guadalupe with a string of dances from Matachines, Nuevo Leon, Guerrero, Tamaulipas and Chiapas. And with much excitement, DanzArts Childrens Academy presents regional dances from Chiapas, Baja California and Jalisco; All part of the ongoing coaching of our young cultural arts bearers being trained at Sherman Heights Community Center, Roosevelt Middle School and at MV C3.
Danzarts delivers visually crisp productions in part because director Patricia Casey was coached at the world renowned Amalia Hernandez Ballet Folklorico de Cuidad Mexico and true to form, you will experience the elongated forms, high ballet kicks and more.
