Bluewater Boathouse Celebrates Sustainable Seafood on Sept 8th

Founded in 1996, Bluewater Grill continues to spread its passion for the freshest, most sustainable seafood. What started as one restaurant in Newport Beach’s historic Cannery Village in 1996 has grown to seven restaurants in California and Arizona, including our familiar and highly regarded Bluewater Boathouse near the Hotel Del Coronado.

Despite such growth, the company maintains close working relationships with industry experts to ensure best-practice standards for sustainable fishing and harvesting. So it’s no surprise that Bluewater’s annual tribute to sustainable seafood and shellfish returns to Coronado as one of the most popular events in the Tuesday Night Tasting Series.

The “Sustainable Seafood Feast: How to Enjoy Seafood and Know Your Menu Choices are Sustainable” on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill will feature a sampling of seafood and shellfish that has been sustainably caught or farmed according to standards established by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach Seafood for the Future program, or the Marine Stewardship Council.

The special menu allows guests to select three courses (including a raw shellfish or hot seafood starter), a choice of signature chowder or lobster bisque, and an entrée, plus all-you-can eat sourdough bread and butter. Valued at $60, the special $34.95 menu includes a chosen tasting of Acrobat wines from Oregon, voted the best wine to pair with seafood and oysters.

Beyond the Sept. 8 event, which includes the wine pairing, Coronado customers can order the special meal all month long and add the featured Acrobat wines at regular prices.

“We hosted our first sustainable seafood feast in 2012 to show our customers just how easy it is to make responsible seafood choices – and it was such a hit, we made it a permanent part of our monthly tasting series,” said Jimmy Ulcickas, Bluewater Grill co-founder. “In addition to tasting the freshest sustainably caught or harvested fish, participants can learn tips on cooking and serving fish, menu-planning, and wine-pairing. The result is a seafood celebration that is fun, flavorful and fascinating at the same time.”

To date, more than 90 percent of the seafood offerings at Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill are sustainably caught or farmed – among the highest of any seafood restaurant in California. All Bluewater restaurants participate in quarterly audits of their invoices to verify the sustainability of their purchasing actions with the Aquarium of the Pacific’s “Seafood for the Future Program.”
