CORONADO, CA (May 5, 2015) The City of Coronado has named Roger Miller, interim director of Recreation Services and director of Golf Course Operations, to the newly combined position of Recreation and Golf Services Department director.
This merged department will provide for greater efficiency between the City’s Golf and Recreation programs, specifically in the areas of administration, contract and concession services. It will result in the immediate reduction of one executive department position.
Miller joined the City of Coronado in June 2009 as director of Golf Services. Then, in November 2014, in addition to Golf, he was named interim director of Recreation. While serving in the interim capacity, Miller made key hires; helped draft the budget for both departments for Fiscal Year 2015-16; completed the Golf Course irrigation controller project, the Golf Cart Barn Roof project and the Golf Course and Tennis Center barrier fencing project; and has been a key player in the ongoing development of a new Active Senior Center.
Miller has a degree in ornamental horticulture and prior management experience working for private country clubs. He will oversee 13 employees in Golf, in addition to two concessionaires with approximately 50 staff members, and more than 150 full- and part-time seasonally adjusted employees on the Recreation side.
