Tenth Stree Attic Celebrates Grand Re-opening at 1112 Tenth Street

While Coronado’s shopping district is ever growing, there is one store you can count on being there – The Attic, located at 1011 Orange Avenue. I recently spoke with one of The Attic’s current owners, Nancy Michaels, and was able to get the newest information on the renovations from her perspective. Michaels gave a me a brief history on the store itself: “We opened Tenth Street Attic in 2008, which was very similar to the original Attic store that existed from 1997-2007, specializing in vintage furniture and decor.” In fact, one of the owners of the original Attic store, Jane Crosby, partnered up with Kandi Queisser and Nancy Michaels, for the store’s rebirth. Expansion followed on the heels of the success of the new Tenth Street Attic, and “in 2011, we opened a second location on Orange Avenue with the intention of creating a very different shopping experience, which included recycled goods, local artist jewelry, and a broader selection of new gift items.” With the Orange Avenue storefront doing so well in business, the three decided it was time to update the Tenth street shop as well.

When asked about what they renovated during the two-month closure, she responded in detail about what they did with the interior as well as the items they sell. “We [Jane Crosby, Kandi Queisser, and Nancy Michaels] had a rustic pallet wall installed on one wall, which really adds depth and warmth to the shop. We redesigned the entire floor plan, and added a beautiful section for jewelry from, local artist, Elizabeth Nadler. We have created a more open feel, which added more space for customers to shop, and we also added new lighting fixtures.” Now that the store has a new, modern feel to it, shoppers will be excited to hear that not only will they be selling the vintage furniture and décor they used to sell, but they will also have more ‘Trunk Sales’ and local Californian artists from all around the state occasionally stopping into the store and selling their one of a kind items, varying from jewelry to renovated, eccentric interior decorations for all rooms at any time of the year.

I then asked about what Coronado locals and visitors should expect when first walking into the new store-front, Michaels replied with “We are really proud of the new look we have created, and we think that the locals and tourists alike will be pleased with the change, and what we have to offer.” Giving all three owners a chance to speak, Crosby and Queisser contributed with the following, “Independent shops create such a distinctive shopping experience from larger chain stores, with a broader range of unique product choices, and a more personalized service.”

The idea of being a small off the radar store is not just treasured by the one-time visiting tourists, though, Michaels said, “We often hear from the locals that we are their ‘go to shop’ when they need a gift, or that special furniture piece to complete a room. We have many repeat tourist customers who visit us each year, and we love seeing familiar faces. Our hope is to continue to be that unique shop that everyone enjoys visiting.”

Whether it is a small, unique piece of jewelry or an original furniture piece to make your household stand out from the rest, The Attic is the place to get it; stop by and maybe you will fall in love with their offered items as thousands of others have.

If you have any further questions about the new store and it’s merchandise, you can contact the attic here.
