CORONADO, CA (September 29, 2014) Linda Rahn has announced her retirement as Director of Recreation Services, a position she has held for 14 years. Her last day is November 18.
During her tenure, Rahn has trained and managed an enthusiastic team of individuals who have helped her over the years further encourage and instill the benefits and joys of recreation in a community that values health, fitness and involvement.
“I can truly say the experiences, opportunities and challenges that I enjoyed here are some of the most memorable of my life,” Rahn said.
Rahn was on hand in 2005 to inaugurate the new Community Center, which was part of the Glorietta Bay Civic Center and Promenade Project. The project included 40,000 square feet of space dedicated to swimming pools, a gymnasium and fitness center, a banquet room and kitchen, a dance studio, rock climbing wall and meeting spaces. Rahn’s team quickly expanded the classes and services offered, more than doubling Recreation’s public participation. She also was present at the dedication of a new Coronado Lawn Bowling Club green, located near the Coronado Senior Center, after it was lost when it became the construction staging area for the Coronado Library’s restoration. Recreation Services oversees the Lawn Bowling Club and Senior Center. Rahn also helped unveil the Coronado Tennis Center in 2011, which went through a complete reconstruction and expansion, the centerpiece of which is an indoor/outdoor lounge. Most recently, Rahn oversaw in 2012 the opening of the 5,000-square-foot Club Room and Boathouse, a facility that offers boat storage, classrooms, a kitchen and office space. Most important to Rahn was the facility’s Club Room, which provides an important space for teens to meet after school and for activities.
“Linda has made a big impact in the lives of so many Coronado residents with her professionalism and passion for recreation and its positive effects,” said City Manager Blair King. “She truly embraces recreation and it shows. We are thankful for her service.”
King has appointed Golf Course Director Roger Miller as interim Director of Recreation Services, while the City evaluates the department’s organization. Miller also will retain his post at Golf Course director.
