eCoronado Staff Takes on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Nominates City Officials & Eagle Staff for Chilly Task

The eCoronado.com staff recently joined the fight against ALS and took on the #icebucketchallenge (video below).

ALS (Amyrotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It commonly affects people ages 40-70, according to the ALS Association. Approximately 5,600 people are diagnosed in the United States each year, and as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time.

Current figures show that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has topped $41 million in donations. eCoronado.com was proud to make a donation as well as get drenched. According to a recent New York Times article, more than 739,000 new donors have given money to the association in recent weeks, more than double in total contributions received during 2013.

eCoronado.com nominates the following Coronado groups for the #ALSIceBucketChallenge: Chief of Police Jon Froomin and the Coronado Police Department, Fire Chief Mike Blood and the Coronado Fire Department, Coronado Eagle & Journal Publisher Dean Eckenroth Sr. and General Manager Dean Eckenroth, Jr, and Coronado Unified District School Board President Dawn Ovrom.

Several other notable Coronado locals have also taken on the challenge, showing their support for those who are living with this disease as well as those who care for them.
