Silver Strand Elementary School is gearing up to host the 19th Annual Luau Dinner and Auction on May 2 from 5-8 p.m. The yearly fundraising event is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the end of the school year with food, games and fun. It is the largest PTO fundraising event of the year.
This year, the Silver Strand PTO hopes to raise $15,000 from the event, which will help offset costs for classroom grants, field trips, enrichment programs, in-school productions, family fun nights and teacher appreciation events, in the face of drastic budget cuts for the upcoming school year.
Admission to the event and most games are free, however ticket sales are available for some activities. Each classroom sponsors games with small prizes for the children. There will also be larger games with a fee such as the photo booth, laser tag, silly string war and karaoke.
Food is also available for pre-purchase, and must be ordered by Friday, April 25th. Popcorn, sno-cones and baked goods will also be available for purchase during the event.
The silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Items up for bid include a bike from Hollands, a spa basket, a family game night basket and more.
