Susanna Wiggins is crowned Miss Coronado by her predecessor Dana Hutchison.
Saturday, March 15 the Miss Coronado pageant was held at the CHS Performing Arts Center. Friends and family filled the theatre in anticipation of the event. In the end, Susanna Wiggins was crowned Miss Coronado 2014 and Katie Hearther was crowned Miss Teen Coronado 2014. Susanna and Katie have the honor, privilege and responsibility to act as goodwill ambassadors for the City of Coronado for the next year. Both young women will also be competing in the Miss California USA/Miss California Teen USA pageant in January 2015.

The Miss and Teen competition consisted of an interview with the panel of judges, swimsuit, evening gown and onstage questions.
Miss Congeniality Carter Graves Miss Photogenic Leah Hatheway
Carter Graves was voted Miss Congeniality by the Miss contestants and Leah Hatheway, Miss Photogenic. The Director’s award for overcoming adversity was given to Ashley Russell. Teen contestants voted Katie Hearther Miss Congeniality and Dalen Dull received the Miss Photogenic award. Katie Hearther also earned a new bike from Cruiser King for selling the most tickets to the pageant.

In addition to the Miss and Miss Teen competition, there were over two dozen young people competing for several titles, judged on their patriotic attire and stage presence. Each young man or lady shared their name with the crowd and answered the question, “What do you like best about Coronado?”

One of the most memorable answers was from the winner of the Young Mister Coronado title, Tylor Johnson who exclaimed, “My favorite thing about Coronado is no beach out of reach!”

Each of the winners will have the opportunity to ride in the Independence Day parade with Miss Coronado Susanna Wiggins and Miss Teen Coronado Katie Hearther.
The panel of judges for the event included Allison Andrews of Fashion Week San Diego, Michael Osbourne (Director, producer, judge and MC for multiple pageants), Tan Huynh (math and art teacher),
Patricia Ross (mentor and former flight attendant), Nan Sandhaus (fashion model and jewelry designer), and Grace Alanis (special education teacher). The young contestants were judged by a very talented Cecilia Sorini posing as the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz and Alexis Reitmeyer appearing as Marilyn Monroe.
Miss Coronado 2013 Dana Hutchison and Miss Teen Coronado 2013 Taylor Nelson hosted the event and looked stunning. They ended their reign with a final walk, each accompanied by her father. Mayor Casey Tanaka was in the audience and Police Chief John Froomin escorted the newly crowned queens across the stage.

The Miss Coronado pageant has a long history and is enjoying success under second year director Marty Brooks. Marty has extensive experience in the pageant world as a former Miss Norco and as a director and pageant planner.
