Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival Returns to Coronado Feb 21 – 23

Celebrating its 20th anniversary year, the 2014 Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival returns to the Coronado Performing Arts Center (650 D Avenue) later this month. Five shows are scheduled for the event, including

Friday, February 21 at 8:00 PM
Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 and 8:00 PM
Sunday, February 23 at 2:00 and 7:00 PM

In honor of the 20th anniversary, an extra evening performance on Sunday and 30 dance companies with over 300 dancers and musicians will delight audiences with diverse cultural traditions rarely seen together in one setting.
Many companies that have thrilled audiences over the past 20 years will again grace the stage; including the pulsing beat of Bollywood Trans, the Spanish flare of Flamenco Arana, and the ethereal grace of Moonlight Chinese Dance Company.

Newcomers will join the cross-cultural tribe, featuring the intensity of the Naruwan Taiko Drummers, the whirling dancer Nicole McLaren, and the magical storytelling of the Center for World Music Odissi School Indian dancers. Nations’ website is the portal to information, performance schedules for each performance, and online tickets!

Make your getaway complete. World-class hotels, sparkling beaches, and sumptuous dining make Coronado a perfect weekend getaway. Save the airfare and see the world in one weekend just a bridge away from San Diego. For tickets and information about Nations, visit the Nations Dance Festival website.

About Coronado School of the Arts and the Foundation
Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is a school-within-a-school on the campus of Coronado High School. The founders of CoSA, now in its eighteenth year, created a training-ground for students interested in in-depth study in these areas: Classical and Contemporary Dance, Digital Media and Filmmaking, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, and Visual Arts. Though the campus is in Coronado, students from all over San Diego County audition for, and are accepted into this prestigious program. In fact, 60% of CoSA students come from outside of Coronado, some traveling from as far as Oceanside, Del Mar, Jamul and El Cajon to be a part of the school. CoSA classes begin at the end of the traditional school day and include a conservatory-style curriculum taught by professionals in each field. Standards are rigorous and students complete the program with the training and understanding to pursue study in the nation’s best colleges and universities.

The Coronado School of the Arts Foundation works tirelessly to support the efforts of Coronado School of the Arts’ teachers and students. As the fundraising arm for the school, the Foundation produces projects like Nations that benefit the community, elevate the arts, and provide a rich training ground for the students.

Don’t miss your opportunity to see the world in one weekend of dance!
