UPDATE: The Cupcake Store & More is now open for business.
Attention “Dessert Foodies” of Coronado: Get ready for a new cupcake store to hit the island in late February or early March 2014. It will open at the former location of Weincakes, at the corner of B Avenue and Ynez Place, will be the second location of The Cupcake Store & More. The Coronado location will include cupcakes, cakes, catering, salads, light breakfast items, acai bowls and sandwiches.
eCoronado.com spoke to the owner, Yvette Nolta, to get additional details about the new location as well as how the idea for this new business came about:
The first location in Santee opened in February 2012 by Yvette and her mother Anne Montgomery. Yvette decided to start business as a way to bring in more revenue for her family and keep her daughter in private school. She invited her mom (Anne) to join the business since she has been a baker for over 50 years. The Santee store has been very successful and has enabled them to expand to Coronado.
Even though the owners don’t live in Coronado, Yvette’s father served in the Navy for 22 years and was last stationed at North Island. They already feel very connected to Coronado and regard it as a very special place to operate their business. They were in conversations with the owner of Weincakes, when the opportunity to take over their lease was presented to them. They made an offer and it was accepted.
Their signature cupcake is the German Chocolate Fusion. It contains a few family secret ingredients as well as coconut-pecan frosting baked right inside the cake. This makes for deliciously moist cupcake. Another favorite is “Death by Peanut Butter” which they said you have to taste to understand.
Sugar free and gluten free offerings are also available.
