San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus Chooses Glenner Memory Care Centers as Holiday Show Outreach Partner

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 2, 2013 – The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus is proud to announce that The Glenner Memory Care Centers has been selected as the 2013 holiday show outreach partner. The upcoming
The Nutcracker (Men in Tights!) concerts on Dec.14 and 15 at the Balboa Theatre will highlight Glenner’s work and donations will be collected in a giant ruby red slipper in the theater lobby.

“Glenner was there for my family when my father really needed help,” said Coronado resident and SDGMC Artistic Director Gary Holt remembering when his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. “Not only did they improve my father’s quality of life, but they also provided support and care to our entire family during an extremely difficult period.”

Glenner provides high-quality day programs in a family-like atmosphere for adults affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory impairment with a primary mission to provide support and resources for the caregiver. For more than 30 years, adults in need—including the frail elderly and veterans—have had a place to go for assistance.

First Tenor Kevin Hannahoe also knows how special the Glenner Centers are from a different perspective—as a volunteer. Hannahoe worked on Glenner’s 30th Anniversary celebration committee and continues to help with special events and fundraisers.

“I’m very supportive and appreciative of the good work The Glenner organization does for local seniors and their families,” noted Hannahoe. “They offer a personal touch when caring for their clients.”

Past SDGMC outreach efforts have benefited a scholarship program for abused children, a shelter for homeless and low-income women, a youth arts and music program, a veteran’s agency and programs to help people living with cancer and HIV/AIDS.

The Nutcracker (Men in Tights!) opens Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Balboa Theatre adjacent to Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego. Tickets start at $27 and may be purchased at www.sdgmc.org or by calling (877) 296-7664.

SDGMC is one of the largest and oldest gay choruses in the world, having entertained audiences for nearly 30 years. Its 150 members embrace a mission of creating a positive musical experience through exciting performances that engage audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change.
