Police Activity Near Hotel del Coronado – Bomb Threat Investigation


eCoronado.com has been getting emails and calls about Coronado Police activity near the Hotel del Coronado. Both entrances are being blocked off at this time. Police are investigation a possible bomb threat.

Update #1 at 12:55pm: NBC San Diego is reporting that there is a possible suspicious package or bomb threat:

An investigation into a possible suspicious package and bomb threat shut down San Diego’s famous Hotel Del Coronado Tuesday, officials confirmed.

Update #2 at 1:13pm: NBC San Diego has taken their story off their website. The story is back up. We are awaiting more information from the Coronado PD / City of Coronado.

Update #3 at 1:28pm: Lea Corbin, Community Relations for Coronado PD, states:

The PD received a call from the Hotel Del at 11:38 a.m. that that a person had made a suspicious call to their reception desk. We have requested allied agency assistance with dogs as a precaution. At this point we are not evacuating the hotel and the “possible” threat does not include any vehicles.

Further, according to Janine Zuniga, Senior Management Analyst for City of Coronado, the Hotel del Coronado has been searched and nothing has been found at this time. The hotel remains open.

Update #4 at 2:35pm: Lea Corbin, Community Relations for Coronado PD, states:

We do not believe the call is or was credible but took precautions to ensure the safety of the public. The hotel is operating as business as usual.
