Community Celebrates International Women’s Day by supporting Becky’s House
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th, The Gensler Group formed a committee of local women to help put together a community outreach event to support Becky’s House. The Becky’s House ® Domestic Violence Program supports the individual’s journey from victim to survivor to achiever. The program includes a 30-day domestic violence emergency shelter, three 18-month transitional living programs and a new scattered Transition in Place program for victims of domestic violence and their families.
The YWCA’s Becky’s House® has the largest number of emergency shelter and transitional housing beds in the county, with 47 and 138 respectively, for women and children escaping domestic violence. They take in domestic violence survivors all hours of the day and night and on weekends (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year). The YWCA’s Becky’s House® serves over 500 women and children each year.

“Generous donations poured in and we were able to put together sixty bags with all kinds of items that women need. Often, many of these women leave their domestic violence situations with just the clothes on their backs,” said Lorie Cook of The Gensler Group.
