So Cal Food Tours– Discover the history of San Diego’s beautiful cities and towns while tasting local specialties.
By combining nutrition with the experience of dining, SoCal Food Tours is a newly started group that features a walking tour of Coronado’s favorite local businesses.
Coronado not only offers the ideal place for a walking tour, but a nutritional and historical tour as well. As you walk on the approximately 1.5 mile route of the tour, the guide offers historical tidbits about Coronado.
“I don’t want people to lose the art of the dining experience when they’re focusing on nutrition,” said founder of SoCal Food Tours, Patti Milligan.
Milligan, an experienced nutritionist who worked in San Diego for 25 years, sparked the idea after many years of working in the clinical nutrition field.
“I always knew I wanted to eventually help people stay out of the hospital,” said Milligan, after spending many years with patients in the hospital.
Moving to Arizona to help the owners of the health food store, Sprout’s, open up shop in another state after selling their previous business, Henry’s, Milligan now also works in international nutrition. Focusing on sustainability, Milligan has spent the past year in this new field.
Trends are embraced whole heartedly in Southern California and common trends shared on the SoCal Food Tours site are: locally sourced meats and seafood, locally grown produce, and sustainability.
Learning the in’s and out’s of your towns local and nutritious establishments is the first step to becoming a more healthy person, and SoCal Food Tours makes the education process enjoyable!
Tour guide, Donna Morgan, lives in San Diego year round and hosts the weekly tours. Kelly Hartford, Milligan’s partner, is the computer genius that makes this possible.
SoCal Food Tours has found a place in the tight knit community of Coronado, highlighting the unique businesses and creating a “full-flavored” experience.
Some spots on the tour may include: Fuel Juice Bar, Costa Azul Coronado, Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge, Coronado Taste of Oils, Wine Styles, and Cafe 1134.
