Wanted: Volunteer “Arts Coordinator” for Coronado

CORONADO, CA. (November 10, 2011) Community supporters of the City’s planned Cultural Arts Commission have announced that they are looking for one very special person to join their team as a volunteer “Arts Coordinator”.

The Cultural Arts Commission was authorized by resolution at a special meeting of the City Council on September 26, 2011. New commissioners will be selected by the City Council at its December 6th meeting and it is expected that the new commission will begin meeting in January, 2012. The Mission of the Cultural Arts Commission is to foster the development and enjoyment of performing, visual, cultural and other arts in the city.

Recognizing that the city’s budget does not allow for a specific staff person to be assigned to the new commission, Heidi Wilson and Doug St. Denis feel that finding a part-time volunteer to work with the commission, its sub-committees, and as a liaison to City staff is just what is needed to launch the commission and have things run smoothly.

States Wilson, “Even though it’s going to be a ‘working commission’ there are many administrative and organization details involved in setting up a brand new commission. What we want is an energetic, organized arts lover to be the pivotal point; working closely with the new commission, city staff and other groups in the community.”

When asked what skills are needed with the new Arts Coordinator, St. Denis said “strong leadership, organizational and clerical skills are essential and of course, must love the arts“. Activities expected to be part of the commissions early agenda are setting up a registry of artists of all media; a mailing list of community supporters, and development of a “master calendar” website for all activities related to cultural arts for Coronado residents and visitors.

Letters of interest/experience should be sent to [email protected]
