The National Honor Society is best described by the four qualities expressly displayed by each member of NHS: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
As a club of scholars, NHS admits only those who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.50. Members have unblemished character records to serve as role models on campus. In everything they do, members take on leadership positions whether in academics, sports, or the arts. But what’s the purpose of these qualities if they aren’t used for the benefit of the community?
The final quality ties the other three together in that NHS members use their hard work, talent, and skill to serve the community. Members are ready to help at nearly all community events like the Concerts in the Park and Valentine’s Day 10K. At Coronado High School, NHS offers free biweekly tutoring in all subjects. However, Coronado’s chapter of NHS is only one of the thousands in high schools across the nation. Imagine multitudes of student leaders who not only posses the four qualities of NHS, but also use them for the enrichment of communities nationwide.
