UPDATE FROM CORONADO POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The incident involving an individual taking photographs in Silver Strand Military Housing, reported to the Coronado Police Department on 9/11/2011, has been fully investigated and there is no nexus to a potential threat or criminal conduct. The individual, a tourist and amateur photographer, tracked to his residence in Hawaii, was interviewed and vetted through Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies. There is absolutely no indication of anything inappropriate. However, the Coronado Police Department continues to encourage the public to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity by calling the Police Department at (619) 522-7350. To All Silver Strand Elementary School Parents:
I have been made aware that a suspicious event occurred in the past week near the Silver Strand Elementary. As a precaution, we have been in close contact with Naval and Police authorities regarding this matter. Security at the school and in the neighborhood has been heightened by all protective agencies. I am confident that all measures have been taken to assure safety for all of us.
As you know the Strand PTA has a regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow morning 9/16 at 8:30 AM in the school cafeteria right after the morning flag salute. In order to make sure that we are properly communicating with one another, I have asked the following organizations to attend the PTA meeting:
· Naval Base Coronado Officers
· Coronado Police Department Officers
· Lincoln Housing Administrators
· Coronado Unified School District Administrators
If you have questions about this matter, that meeting will be a great time to have those questions answered. If you cannot attend the meeting, please direct your questions to the proper authorities listed above.
