Former Coronado Resident Leaves $50,000 to Library

The Coronado Public Library has accepted a $50,000 donation from the estate of former resident, library patron and Hotel del Coronado archivist Judith Bond. Bond, who died last year, spent most of World War II in Coronado, where she held her first job as a page at the library. Her father was Navy Captain Charles A. Bond. After traveling extensively with her family and teaching abroad, Bond resettled in Coronado in about 1980 and began working at the Hotel del Coronado. There, Bond organized the first permanent archives of the hotel. She continued working in the public relations department at the Hotel del Coronado until 2000. As a lifelong reader and lover of books, Bond kept her own extensive personal library and was a regular sponsor of the Friends of the Coronado Library annual book fair. “Given Judith’s interests, the Coronado Public Library will use the funds from this generous bequest to preserve, digitize and disseminate historical and archival materials,” Christian Esquevin, director of Library Services, said.
