A new group of U.S. Navy SEAL recruits has hit Coronado’s shores.
Candidates for Class 290 began an intense portion of their training Sunday known as “Hell Week,” where they will prove whether or not they will make it closer to their goal of becoming members of the elite Navy SEAL teams.
Navy officials say Coronado residents and visitors may hear pyrotechnics and blank weapons fire during this grueling 5 1/2 days of SEAL training.
They also may see the camouflage-wearing candidates running in formation along the shoreline, performing beach and surf exercises.
“Hell Week” includes 132 hours of continuous physical activity for candidates. It will end at about 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5.
