IMPERIAL BEACH – Rebecca Hernandez lives in Tijuana just blocks from the beach. Hernandez says since December 23rd, a sewage pipe near her home has been shooting sewage water throughout the neighborhood and into the Pacific Ocean.
And now, conservationists say, it’s heading north into Imperial Beach and Coronado. How much? Estimates say between 31 and 40 million gallons.
Paloma Aguirre is with the group Wildcoast. She’s the border coastal conservation director. Aguirre says, “a break in the piping in Playas De Tijuana was just spewing raw sewage onto the street and onto the beach.”
