In the latest issue of the Coronado Currents, there was a blurb about free Wi-Fi at Rotary Plaza. Rotary Plaza is located at the corner of Orange Avenue and Park Place.
This means that laptops and smartphones will be able to connect to the “Rotary Plaza” wireless network for free and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while browsing the Net or checking email. There is no password or access code needed.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to expand that hotspot to the entire island? Yes, all 8 square miles of it. Consider how many residents, hotels, restaurants, etc. are paying for broadband access for their homes and businesses. I’m sure a high percentage of subscribers have wireless networks set up and are paying at least $50/month for access. I think island visitors would enjoy connecting for free during their visit and it would serve as another amenity that makes Coronado unique and attractive for visitors.
Our city is small enough and “island-shaped” enough to seriously consider making Coronado Wi-Fi available someday in the future. There is Google Wi-Fi for Mountain View, but I don’t think Google has a plan to light up Coronado anytime soon.
So, enjoy the free Wi-Fi as you listen to the bubbling of the Rotary Plaza fountain and let’s dream of a Wi-Fi Coronado in the near future.
