At one property, the homeowner will have to remove a recently constructed wall because it encroaches onto the public right of way by being too close to the sidewalk.
However, directly after the council made that decision, the owner of another home was granted an encroachment permit for a fence she recently built for her roses, even though it also does not comply with city codes.
The council noted the wall and fence pose different concerns as the wall is closer to the sidewalk and not as easily removed as the fence.
