When you live on Coronado, you are bound to become friends with many of the sailors and Navy families that populate our wonderful community. Usually, we are at some type of social event or local park a nice family. After hitting it off with them, we ask that dreaded question: “So…are you Navy?” When they answer “yes”, we mentally play out the relationship and skip to the part when their ‘Coronado tour’ ends and we lose great friends. We get tempted to hold back and not deepen the relationship, but it’s usually impossible to limit the friendship and jump in with both feet. We do this because it’s always been worth the heartache. Plus, sometimes they come back.
Let me reiterate my statement – it’s worth it.
The most recent heartache has been left by our incredible neighbors Chris and Laura. They lived next door to us for less than a year, but during that time, they adopted our two kids and become fast friends with our family. They were always available to play board games, join water balloon fights, go for ice-cream adventures and just hang out and talk. Chris is in the Navy and was recently called back to Maryland for his next assignment.
Here is a photo of our neighbors Chris and Laura (with our kids) just before they started the long drive out to Annapolis:
Below is one of my favorite photos of the ‘neighborhood gang’ coming back from Nado Gelato after eating some yummy gelato and picking up some new facial hair on the ride home:
So, it’s with a heavy heart that I remind you to keep deepening those Navy relationships. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks for all the great memories Chris and Laura – be safe & come back soon!
