Coronado Library Offers Prizes to Young Summer Readers

Second grader Ellie proudly shows off her ‘bead necklace’ as volunteers Taylr, Grace & Nicholas work the ‘ticket booth’.

The Coronado Library continues to be one of our favorite places on the island. You’ll notice many kids wearing ‘bead necklaces’ that proudly show how many books they have read this summer. The more books they read, the more beads (and prizes) they earn. Some prizes include: Legoland tickets, museum coupons, t-shirts, etc. See the full prize list below.

We believe this is a great way to encourage reading and to extend learning throughout the summer. We go to the library every 2-3 days to get more books and to check-in with the program volunteers to redeem read titles for beads. The program ends in August when school starts.
