Firefighters & Family Fun – Largest Firefighting Event in CA Adds Demo Derby to Mix
WHAT: 20th Annual Viejas Fire Expo / Firefighter Demolition Derby
Presented by San Diego County Credit Union (A benefit for the Burn Institute)
WHEN: 10:30 AM – 6 PM, Saturday, June 19, 2010
WHERE: The San Diego County Fair, Del Mar Fairgrounds! Exciting firefighting displays and demo derby will fill the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena (east end of the fairgrounds).
COST: The Viejas Fire Expo/Firefighter Demo Derby is included with general fair admission.
PURPOSE: To highlight the latest in emergency services; educate the public/raise awareness about fire and burn prevention; to raise funds for local Burn Institute programs and burn survivor support services, including Camp Beyond The Scars for burn-injured children.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: (Throughout the day, unless otherwise noted)
+ 11am-3 pm – LIVE Firefighting Demonstrations: Exciting vehicle fire demo; rappelling demo (5-stories high) and K-9 attack dog demonstration.
+ 12:30 pm – Opening Ceremonies; pipes/drums, color guard and National Anthem.
+ 1:00 pm – Arrival of 2010 Burn Run Parade: An amazing parade of fire trucks & apparatus (no. and so. county runs) converge at fairgrounds with lights flashing!
+ 4:00 pm – Firefighter Demo Derby: Fire Departments from all over the county display their customized clunkers and “smash for cash” to benefit the Burn Institute!
+ On Display: Emergency Service Booths, Fire Safety Trailers, Fire Engines & Rigs
+ Just for the Kids: Stop, Drop & Roll activity; Inflatable Fire Safety House, face painting, arts & crafts and more!
+ FREE Giveaways: Photo with a firefighter, smoke alarms, drawing for great prizes!
+ KPRI-FM Pop-Up Concert: Local band, JinxKing performs (3:30-5pm)
