Coronado attack puts Scripps Ranch in hole

CORONADO — Coronado High girls lacrosse coach Jessica Battle had a straightforward message for her team before Tuesday night’s San Diego Section semifinal game against Scripps Ranch: Just relax and play the game — with playoff intensity.

Keyed by a balanced offense and a scoring burst in each half, the Islanders defeated the Falcons 12-6 to advance to the title game against Torrey Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rancho Bernardo. It was Coronado’s third straight win over Scripps Ranch this season, though the first two were one-goal decisions.

“I told them to just go out and play, and forget the first two tough games against Scripps,” said Battle. “We kept our intensity up the whole game. And our attack has depth. If one player isn‘t scoring, I‘ve got five others who do.”
