Student Scholarship Available

Student Scholarship available from Voice of San Diego
One talented student will win a $2,500 scholarship.
The popular voiceofsandiego.org Student Essay Contest is back for its second year.
Open to 11th and 12th graders in San Diego County, this year’s essays will address one of three local debates: the county’s role in providing social services; whether the city of San Diego should invest in recycling sewage for drinking water; and whether the San Diego Unified School District’s decision not to pursue federal “Race to the Top” funding was right.
The deadline for submitting essays is Friday, May 21, 2010. Essays will be judged on insightfulness, supporting facts and evidence, development of ideas and style.
The winning essay writer will receive a $2,500 scholarship to the college of the student’s choice. The 10 best essays will be published on the voiceofsandiego.org website in late June.
Special thanks to Bob, Karen, and Heather Bowden for sponsoring this year’s contest.
And, thanks to a donation from Sylvan Learning of San Diego, the top 11th grade essay (or runner-up if an 11th grader wins the scholarship) will win a choice of an SAT prep seminar (which is worth $895) or ACT prep seminar (worth $795).
