Lecture at the Coronado Historical Association: Shamans, Art and Creativity

Lecture at the Coronado Historical Association: Shamans, Art and Creativity

What does shamanism have to do with the origin of art? You might not be thinking of neurochemistry as the answer to this question. Learn the relationship between this ancient form of communication with the supernatural or spiritual realm, the inspirations and creation of art and the activation of certain human brain chemicals. This lecture will be presented on Friday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coronado Historical Association’s Lecture Hall.

Dr. Cordy-Collins is a preeminent archaeologist who has worked on several important excavations in Peru for National Geographic including the royal tombs of Sipan. She is a Professor of Anthropology and Director of the David W. May Indian Artifacts Gallery at the University of San Diego. Her secondary specialization is in shamanism and she is currently working on research in Mongolia.

The registration fee for the lecture is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. For reservations, please either call the CHA Office, 619-435-7242 for your credit card charge or send your check with your name, address, phone number and number of tickets to CHA, 1100 Orange Ave., Coronado, CA 92118. All proceeds benefit the Coronado Historical Association to help fulfill the mission of encouraging and promoting the appreciation, knowledge and understanding of Coronado’s unique art, architecture, history and other historical resources.
