Coronado Boys Look to Finish Strong

Coach Brian Hiatt-Aleu (Nado Select) and the Coronado HS boys varsity soccer squad look for a strong finish as the end of the season draws near with only three games in sight. Last week the Islanders (12-4-2) registered a 3-3 draw with Hoover before falling to Lincoln, 2-0.

Coronado hoped for an improvement against a troubling Hoover squad, who the Islanders trailed, 3-0, earlier in the season. The Islanders went into the game hoping to pressure early and shut down Hoover’s dangerous crosses from the outside. Things seemed in favor of Coronado when senior Eddie Vita notched the game opening goal. Freshman Riley Peterson (Nado Select) then netted the second goal to widen Coronado’s lead, 2-0.

Hoover refused to allow the Islanders anymore room and snuck in a goal for a 2-1 score. Nate Hoffman (Nado Select) responded with a goal to put the Islanders up, 3-1, but despite the lead Coronado felt the pressure from a strong Hoover squad and looked for another goal to secure the win.

“It was one of those games where we had a lot of chances to score a fourth goal and kill the game,” Hiatt-Aleu said. “It was just the feeling that if we didn’t finish them off they were going to get something in the end.”
