Date Night on Bikes Riding & Dining Around Coronado

Our next door neighbors invited us out Sunday night on a dining adventure around the island. We hired a sitter to watch all of our kids and we left around 5:30pm. The plan was to ride bikes to three different restaurants for drinks and food. So, we bundled up, grabbed our bikes and rode off along Orange Avenue.

The first stop was Vigilucci’s Ristorante where we had drinks and appetizers in the bar (I recommend the sampler). Great service, wonderful food and there was even a piano player filling the air with enjoyable music. An hour later, we hopped back on our bikes and crossed Orange Avenue and made our way down to Coronado Ferry Landing via B Avenue. The most dangerous part of the journey was crossing 4th and 3rd Street, but we made it across unscathed. I remember someone yelling ‘run for your lives’, which was the signal to peddle fast!

The second leg of our journey was Candelas on the Bay. We sat in the bar and enjoyed very sweet martinis, tacos and sopas. Live music played in the corner of the restaurant and we enjoyed the view of the colorful lights of downtown San Diego. Plus, I was able to score a great deal from Groupon that gave us $65 for the price of $30. Over 1,100 bought this deal at Candelas. Another hour went by and it was time to move on to our next spot. Now came the hard part – riding from Coronado Ferry Landing to the Hotel del Coronado on a close to full stomach and some holiday cheer. We decided to avoid the major streets and take the scenic route around the bay and under the Coronado Bridge past the golf course. It felt so nice to be exerting some energy as we rode onwards toward dessert at the Del. Plus, we were able to take in all the Christmas lights along Glorietta Blvd. It was a bit on the chilly side, but that just made us pedal with a bit more energy.

15 minutes later, we arrived at the Hotel del Coronado. We decided to grab some hot cocoa, coffee and s’mores elements. We found a table up on the Sun Deck with a fire ring that overlooks the ice-skating rink, the 100,000 twinkling lights of the Del and of course the Pacific Ocean. The fire ring was warm and allowed us to cook our ‘campy’ dessert. It was a great way to wind down the evening catching up with each other and gearing up for the week ahead. We hopped on our bikes around 8:45pm and made our way through Star Park on a path back to our block. It was a very relaxing evening and we are grateful to our neighbors for inviting us and encouraging us to ‘get out’. Living on Coronado, it’s truly a unique way to enjoy an evening on the island while doing something a little different. So, grab your bikes, plot your course and get out there and enjoy Coronado with some friends!
