Exclusive: See the Improvements Being Made to Vons Coronado (Photos)

Have you seen the construction on the outside and inside of Vons? We contacted Vons and they were good enough to send us these ‘completion photos/mockups) and project description. As frequent shoppers at Vons, we are looking forward to these improvements! Construction is underway and is expected to complete on November 20, 2009 and the grand opening is slated for December 5, 2009. 868 Orange Ave Coronado, CA 92118-2619 (619) 435-6811 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Vons grocery store, owned by Safeway Inc., is an urban market. The 21,611 square foot store will undergo a major “Lifestyle” remodel to the interior and exterior of the store. The store enjoys the best market location on Coronado Island but is very dated and in dire need of a makeover. The structure was originally built circa 1963 and has never had a major remodel of the market. Exterior (note that exterior images below show the finished project):

Cosmetic changes to the exterior facades include the following: * Rock veneer applied to the lower portion of all exterior facades. * The existing front, side and rear natural silver aluminum window mullions to remain as is. * The stucco facades will be painted. * The existing red “VONS” signs will be replaced. * Site and landscape improvements will also be made. Interior: The following are interior improvements: * New energy efficient lighting * New flooring * New Floral Department * New location for Service Deli * New Bread and Bakery Section * Improved Produce Section * Improved Meats and Fish Section See the actual interior designs in this PDF: 28446_LSE Front Remodel Brd #2364_8-25-09.pdf Construction is underway and is expected to complete on November 20, 2009 and the grand opening is slated for December 5, 2009. In these tough times, Vons has invested generous time and budget to improve our facility for the benefit of our customers, employees, company and the City of Coronado. We saw this as a great opportunity to provide Coronado customers with a better shopping experience and to stimulate the local economy. These improvements will help entice and effectively compete and gain from both tourism and residents to shop in Coronado instead of venturing over the bridge to meet their needs to the benefit of other local economies.
