CORONADO – On a day when most of the Country is enjoying time off from their day job, hundreds of workers form the Hotel Del Coronado are rallying for what they call a human right on Labor Day. “To really fight for health care not only in the nation but right here at Hotel Del,” says Lorena Gonzalez of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. “I think for us the workers here at Hotel Del we have hundreds of workers who are not qualifying for health care,” says Brigette Browning, President of the Hotel Worker’s Union. But even those who do qualify for Health Care say they can’t support their families because of the high cost of insurance. “If there was a way that we didn’t have to divert so much money to health care we would have people making like $16 dollars an hour and they could buy a house and support a family and it really could be an amazing thing,” says Browning. Hotel Del employees say they will continue to rally until they receive a contract they feel is fair. San Diego 6 did call to speak to Hotel Del officials to get their side of these contract negotiations, but our call was not returned. Read the entire San Diego 6 article here.
