They are also known as the official San Diego Charger Big Band. Benny Hollman and his men have performed, recorded or backed such notables as the Temptations, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis, Bob Hope, Gianni Russo, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, the late great Steve Allen along with so many other music greats. This past summer Benny’s forty-two-piece orchestra backed American Idol’s Clay Aiken. In addition to shows performed with Don Rickles, the Jersey boy himself Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Benny’s association with the legendary Frankie Laine was as the Arranger, Conductor, Manager and Musical Director that spanned over fourteen years. During that time Mr. Laine received the coveted Life Time Achievement Award from the Singer Song Writer Hall of Fame in New York. Over 35 years Benny Hollman has been part of the Southern California music scene entertaining thousands with his high energy, groovin’ hard Big Band arrangements that features a wealth of talented musicians that make up the Benny Hollman Big Band Explosion. Come on down to Spreckels Park for the best summer concert series around. Bring family, friends and food as you enjoy a wonderful night of music in the heart of Coronado. Adults and kids alike will dance, laugh, break bread and most of all listen to great music in one of our favorite parks on the island.
