The good news is that catching the Coronado Ferry is a lot less inexpensive ($6.50 per person for a round trip) and dangerous than hitching a ride on the Titanic. Many of the restaurants on the Coronado side have daily happy hours, including Candelas, which has half-price deals on all its drinks and Spanish-inspired appetizers. You could also bring a picnic and enjoy it on the sliver of beach near the ferry dock all while enjoying the views of downtown San Diego.
