Bridge tolls may pave way to ease traffic woes

Coronado officials are considering a San Diego-Coronado Bridge toll ranging from $3 to $10 per roundtrip to help pay for a proposed tunnel or other projects to ease traffic congestion in the city. In February, Coronado officials began publicly discussing the idea of a toll to help fund projects to alleviate the city’s growing traffic problem. A proposed one-mile tunnel from the bridge to North Island Naval Air Station is one option being studied. An analysis the city released Friday found that tolls could raise an initial $140 million with a rate of $1.50 each way during the four-year construction of a tunnel, from 2014 to 2018.
