This is not your typical movie about an ultra running or endurance event; it shares the incredible story about the wonderful people who created the race, the countless volunteers and others who make it possible. It’s about the Ohana — Hawaiian for family.
The Hawaiian Ultra Running Team (HURT) 100 Mile Endurance Run is known as one of the TOUGHEST 100 mile endurance foot races in the world. The Islander Sports Foundation is happy and privileged to be hosting its documentary!
Whether you are an avid runner, a multi-sport athlete, a hiker, or someone who just marvels at the human condition, the rocks, roots, mud, dirt, humidity, rain, and the support of the Ohana that surround this iconic race will amaze you. This documentary takes you on an emotional journey from the infancy of ultra-running in the early 1980s, up and through the 2017 running of the HURT 100.
Immediately following the screening we will have a Q & A session with a panel of HURT Ohana including runners, crew and volunteers from San Diego. Of note, two local Coronado High School students will be on hand to answer your HURT Ohana questions, Anna and Julia Hinz. They have witnessed this race as volunteers and crew as they grew up a part of this fantastic Ohana!
Working with the HURT production team, we have made this showing into a fundraiser for a local charity, the Islander Sports Foundation, a 501(c)3 whose mission it is to “sustain competitive sports” at the middle and high school levels. For most student-athletes, middle school and high school are the primary years during which they have the opportunity to compete on behalf of their school and learn the skills of teamwork and leadership through sport. The foundation works diligently to make these years the best they can be for all student-athletes.
Our goal is to generate a minimum of $1,000 for this great foundation with this screening. To do so, we need to sell 120 seats. Please come join us on for an incredible journey into the HURT 100 Mile Race and its Ohana!
