Free Training for Middle & High School Athletes at Proteus Academy (May 1-12)

Coronado High School alumnus Alex Johnson and the local Proteus Academy want to help the Islander community reach their long-term athletic goals and potential.

Alex is currently the Center Director for Proteus Academy. Started in 2014 by a small group of Navy veterans and business partners as a no-frills training environment for small, private groups, Proteus, at 841 1/2 Orange Ave, is located behind Night and Day Café and has become a unique community of athletes and adults training together to reach high levels of health, fitness and performance.

Recently, Proteus has joined forces with one of the nation’s leading sports performance brands, Velocity Sports Performance, to bring Velocity’s high caliber sport performance training to Coronado. With Alex and Velocity at the helm, they are now launching comprehensive performance training for middle school, high school and college athletes here on the Island.

Alex spent his middle and high school days in the CHS pool under former head coach, Randy Burgess, whom he credits with giving him most of the tools for success he uses today. His athletic accomplishments at CHS landed him in the pool at UCLA, where he worked with other world-class coaches and fitness instructors to enhance this competitive mindset.

Now in an effort to invest heavily back into the Coronado community, Alex is very excited to be “opening the doors” at Proteus for all aspiring middle school, high school and college athletes who truly want to take their athleticism, mindset and resiliency to another level. Proteus trained the CHS Rugby teams this past season, and is eager to now open things up to all athletes, teams and families.

With summer approaching and limited capacity, Proteus is giving athletes and their families a “sneak peek” of these new training programs and overall system by offering FREE GROUP TRAINING SESSIONS from May 1st through May 12th.  After that, athletes can engage with Proteus for Group, Team or Private training on a first-come, first-served basis.

Middle School athletes will train from 5-6pm and High School and College athletes will train from 6-7:30pm.

Training will be led by veteran sport performance and tactical athlete coach, Mike Cahill, several speed coaches and movement specialists, and Velocity’s long-standing system of breeding elite athletes, guys and girls alike, across all sports, ages and skill levels.

Training is supported with individualized nutrition coaching, habit and mindset formation, and enhanced recovery protocols to empower each athlete to fully upgrade and optimize their preparation and performance, both on and off the playing field.
