  • Coastal Campus Entrance 65% Complete Design Plans Briefing:  On Wednesday evening, December 14, the City of Coronado sponsored a briefing at the Coronado Cays Community Room by Naval Base Coronado Commanding Officer Captain Scott Mulvehill. The meeting was well attended. As part of the City’s Environmental Review Comments, it had asked for an early review of the plans for the main entrance of the new Coastal Campus. The City requested an opportunity to see the plans at the 65 percent complete phase. Current incomplete plans show a signalized intersection at Hooper Boulevard immediately south of the Coronado Cays. The intersection has been oriented to direct headlights away from Cays’ residences and to provide space for vehicles to line up off of the State Highway. Residents raised concerns with speeding, whether there was sufficient capacity to queue vehicles, congestion and noise. The Navy will take these comments into consideration.
  • Attempted Gas Theft at Golf Course:  Last week, an attempt was made to steal gasoline from the gas tanks at the Golf Course maintenance yard. Several five-gallon buckets were filled with fuel. It appears that the would-be thieves left the gas behind.
  • Port Performance Venue Environmental Study:  A public meeting is set for Monday, December 19, to solicit comments on the scope and content of a draft Environmental Impact Report for a proposed permanent performance and event venue in Embarcadero Marina Park South in San Diego. The Bayside Performance Park will be used by applicant San Diego Symphony Orchestra and other artists and events. In the past, the community has expressed concern about the noise from the venue. The City will closely monitor the study. The report will address the environmental effects of the proposed project on surrounding areas, including noise, aesthetics and visual resources. The meeting will be at 5 p.m. at the San Diego Unified Port District Administration Building, Training Room, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego. For questions, call (619) 686-6597.

  • Coronado Seniors Out & About Program:  The City is looking for seniors and volunteers for the Coronado Seniors Out & About volunteer driver program. The service will provide scheduled rides to Coronado residents ages 60-plus for a nominal fee of $1 to $4 depending on the distance traveled. Rides are provided to medical/health related offices, grocery stores, banks, events, activity centers, barber/beauty shops and more, both locally and into San Diego, up to 25 miles. Coronado Seniors Out & About program is supported by the San Diego Association of Governments as part of the TransNet Senior Mini-Grant Program and in response to the growing need of transportation to this vital community. If you are in need of a ride or would you like to volunteer to drive for the program, please visit Coronado Recreation Services at www.coronado.ca.us/outandabout or call (619) 522-7343.Coronado Seniors Out and About
