A picture I took on one of my first days living in Coronado! Growing up for anyone is hard. According to Peter Pan it is “extremely difficult”. However, Peter lived in London and we live in Coronado-and personally, I like it here better! We have much nicer weather and it feels much safer here. But anyway you look at it, growing up is hard-especially when you wake up one day and realized you are a teenager. Being a teenager anywhere is a challenge. We’re old enough to drive, and responsible for planning our future but too young to vote or stay out past 11:00 pm curfew. But, being a teenager in Coronado does have its perks. There is so much to do during the day. Every day you can discover something new to do. Some teenagers may disagree with me-you can get tired of the beach, tennis, the pool, biking around. What they may not realize is that sometimes you can find something to do in the most unexpected place. For example, the other day I was reading an article about paddle boarding on the bay. And there are new businesses with new ideas popping up everyday-you may just have to dig a little to find them. One thing I have noticed is how early the island “shuts down”. Almost all the coffee shops, restaurants, etc are closed by 9:30 pm during the week. This makes it tough for teenagers to find something to do. I agree with a lot of teens that we wish there was more things to do at night-right here at home-so we wouldn’t have to leave the island. A few laces for kids to go and have fun and enjoy friends’ company would be nice. I also wish there was a free internet café available until 11:00 pm-especially during the school year. I love living here in Coronado. This is my first summer on the island. My family and I moved here in January 2009-we have lived in Pacific Beach and La Jolla and by far Coronado is the best place to live. I love that the community here is so inviting and there are so many different opportunities. I love to go to the concerts in the Park and I’m looking forward to the 4th of July Parade. The beach is fantastic. Coronado is special-there is so much history and yet there are so many new and exciting things to do in the future. Even though I haven’t lived here all my life, it feels as though I have. So being a teenager in Coronado-is it good or bad? I think it’s what you make it. I think it’s an amazing place to be-and I think even Peter Pan would agree to grow up if it was here in Coronado. Elizabeth eCoronado.com Online Editor Intern
