Coronado course picturesque, less pricey

By: Jack Innis

Well, sorry I’ve been out of the loop for a little bit. In fact, spent last week in San Diego for a journalism convention.

I know what you’re thinking: Did I play Torrey Pines? My quick answer is no.

I wanted to play the championship course at Torrey Pines (the south course), but I couldn’t get a tee time. But I could have played the north course for about $125 for non-residents.

My buddy out there suggested we play Coronado Municipal Golf Course instead. He raved that it was a very nice public course on what was once an island across the water from downtown San Diego. I think we paid about 45 bucks to play it.

In a word: picturesque. We played late in the afternoon. Had it not been for a fivesome in front of us, it would have been a perfect day. The course was in great shape, the day was beautiful and the staff was very pleasant.
