Hi, I’m Charlie Brown, the newest intern to work for eCoronado.com. I’m currently a sophomore in Coronado High
School, and I’ve lived in Coronado for most of my life. Being a high school student in Coronado, I’ve had a lot of interesting experiences. Coronado is a great place to go through school. The school is great for high school students like me because the atmosphere encourages creativity and individuality. Also, Coronado Island is a very entertaining place to live in general. I am almost always able to find something to do here. Whether it’s going to Subway, the beach, the library, or simply loitering around the city looking for friends to hang out with, almost every attempt at entertaining myself here has been successful.
I came to Coronado when I was a wee lad of one year old due to a military relocation. I am now attending Coronado High School. CHS has been an interesting place to go to every weekday. The stereotypical American high school student hates getting up in the morning every week-day to go to school. I find it surprisingly tolerable. I’m not saying I love sitting in classrooms discussing quadratic functions in Algebra 2; I’m saying that the school is not a place a lot of people dread. The majority of students I meet really enjoy CHS.
Coronado School of the Arts, or CoSA as it’s known around town, is located on the campus of Coronado High School. It is a public arts conservatory that accepts students from all over the county. Competition for admission to CoSA is tough. Students who are accepted become inter-district transfers at CHS. CoSA is a school for aspiring artists in musical theater, technical theater, visual art, dance, and digital media. I am currently enrolled in the Film Program of the Digital Media Department. This is my second year. We in CoSA take academic classes during the day at CHS, including an elective centralized around our chosen art, followed by two hours after school each day. CoSA classes vary depending on what year the student is in and what department you’re a member of. CoSA offers a very demanding and rigorous program with the expectation that students devote several hours to their art but it’s one of the reasons I really like school here.
Coronado is a great place to get out of your house and go do stuff. The weather is mild year round, so almost any day of the year is a good day to go hang out downtown with friends. Not every day is necessarily a good day to go swim in the ocean, but you can always go for a walk or play Frisbee with your friends. The many parks and other grassy areas on the island are perfect for hanging out with friends on a Saturday.
Coronado has always served me well. I rarely find myself unable to be entertained by the town, which is always a good thing. As a new Online Editor/Producer at eCoronado.com, I will bring you stories and keep you interested in Coronado. All in all, I have to say that Coronado has always been a great place to live. If you have any ideas for stories or items you want me to review, please contact me.
Here’s an example of one of my films. I made this for CoSA’s Halloween Film Festival on October 27th 2010.
I’m looking forward to covering Coronado and meeting you in the real world of Coronado.
