In the spotlight: Coronado senior Cassie Callahan shines as a defender as part of a core of four-year varsity players for the Islanders, who are seeking their third section title in four seasons. “We expect nothing but the best from her this season,” Coronado coach Kiko Medina said. “Cassie’s extremely technically sound, and she just has a great knowledge of the game.” Included in the Islanders’ senior nucleus of longtime teammates are forwards Mallory Mitchell and Kaitlyn Couture and defender Ali Culora. Coronado also reached the Southern California Regional semifinals last season.
