El Cordova Hotel Participates in Global Earth Hour – Working Towards LightStay Certification

Lights out at the El Cordova Hotel last Saturday night in support of Global Earth Hour. Lobby is pictured above.

Coronado’s El Coronado Hotel participated in Global Earth Hour and showed their support by ‘turning out the lights’ last Saturday (March 26th) at 8:30pm. Bob Rauch (HotelGuru.com) shared the following information:

Our guests turned off their room lights and we operated without electricity for an hour to show our support for cutting back on energy costs and helping to save our planet. Guest reactions were highly positive. This was not a political statement, merely showing concern that we have limited fossil fuel resources and need to be aware of the need to conserve.

The El Coronado Hotel is also working towards getting certified with LightStay. In addition we are doing the following:

– recycling in common areas and back of house
– changed out all light bulbs to the new cfl
– switched to green laundry detergent
– recycling used cooking oil
– already have in place a linen re-use program
– considering a composting program

El Cordova Hotel: Located on the beautiful island of Coronado in San Diego, this charming hotel is just a short walk to the beach, and only minutes away from Downtown, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Historic Old Town and Mexico.

Originally built as a countryside mansion in 1902, it’s nostalgic charm and picturesque Spanish architecture have been preserved and restored. Lovely walkways invite you to stroll through the courtyard and visit interesting boutiques, fine shops, and patio restaurants.
