At 8:15 p.m. on Monday evening, November 18, a police officer on routine patrol
noticed a man walking in the 1300 block of Orange Avenue acting suspiciously near
several bicycles. The officer had seen the man earlier in the evening riding a bike. The
man then left the area on foot, reappearing moments later riding a different bicycle than
he had been seen with earlier. The officer followed the subject and made contact with
him a few blocks away.
Roberto Carlos Vasquez, of Chula Vista, was arrested after admitting to stealing
the bicycle. He is also a suspect in the theft of a bicycle from the 900 block of Orange
Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Vasquez is being charged with two counts of grand theft
and is currently in County Jail.
