Injury accident involving teenage bicyclist backs up Coronado traffic

The Coronado Police Department is reporting that a fifteen year-old cyclist was struck by a vehicle near 4th Street and B Avenue this afternoon around 2:45 p.m. The cyclist was transported to a San Diego-area hospital; the extent of the cyclist’s injuries are unknown at this time.

Two lanes outbound 4th Street and the 300 through 500 blocks of B Avenue are closed temporarily while officers complete their investigation. Expect delays until further notice.

eCoronado.com readers are reporting that traffic is backed up all the way onto NAS North Island.

UPDATE (5:20 p.m.) | CPD is reporting that the investigation into what is being called a “serious injury accident” is expected to last for several more hours.

UPDATE 2 (9:20 p.m.) | CPD is reporting that all lanes of 4th Street are now open and flowing.

UPDATE 3 (April 23) | The CPD investigation into the accident continues, but no charges have been filed against the driver in the accident. A CPD spokesperson also confirmed that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
