Mary Clifford has announced that she will retire as City Clerk after six years in the position, and another 15 years with the City of Coronado.
Clifford was selected to the City Clerk position in 2013 after serving as the executive assistant to the Coronado City Manager for 11 years and having served as interim City Clerk and holding the position of deputy City Clerk.
“Mary is a consummate professional in managing the affairs of the City,” said City Manager Blair King. “She is a dedicated public servant, a valuable member of the management staff and she will be sorely missed.”
As City Clerk, it has been Clifford’s job to prepare and distribute the agenda for City Council meetings, record legislative actions, ordinances, resolutions, and minutes; maintain custody of official City documents and records; prepare for and conduct City elections; provide information regarding local and state laws; and perform a variety of administrative support functions.
Clifford was certified as a municipal clerk, a task that included attending extensive education programs. She also is a Notary Public. During her career with the City, Clifford provided administrative support to two city managers and was an administrative secretary in Coronado’s Administrative Services Department. She was an executive assistant and executive secretary, as well as a senior clerk stenographer in New York State.
A search will be conducted to fill the position.
