After a 32-year career in local government, Coronado Assistant City Manager Tom Ritter has announced his retirement effective July 12.
Ritter joined the City of Coronado in 2009 after serving as the assistant city manager of Imperial Beach for six years. He also held positions in the cities of Carlsbad, Solana Beach and Long Beach. He began his career in public administration in Manhattan Beach in 1984.
“Tom is a consummate professional and a truly dedicated public servant,” said City Manager Blair King. “His wealth of Coronado knowledge, generous support extended to all departments and City employees, and wry sense of humor will surely be missed.”
During his tenure in Coronado, Ritter helped revitalize the Glorietta Bay Marina’s Dock C and public dock, worked on the initiation of the City’s Free Summer Shuttle service, implemented the City’s wayfinding signage program, oversaw the formation of the City’s Transportation Commission, administered the enforcement of Coronado’s short-term rental ordinance, managed the City’s participation in a national citizen satisfaction survey, and began the City’s Avenue of Heroes recognition program.
As assistant city manager, Ritter also oversees commercial use of the City’s property, risk management, intergovernmental affairs, and special projects. Ritter also represented the City on numerous boards and committees, including Coronado MainStreet, Chamber of Commerce and Discover Coronado.
“I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work in every city I served,” Ritter said. “I’m especially grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve the community of Coronado these past 10 years.”
