Lifeguard Truck Runs Over Child at Coronado Beach

Around 6:15pm Monday evening, a Coronado Lifeguard truck on routine patrol ran over a young child in the sand on the Coronado beach. According to Coronado Fire Chief Jim Lydon, the vehicle was maneuvering around a sand berm and the driver did not see the girl who was crouched down in the sand on all fours. Witnesses said the front and rear tires passed over the child. The driver stopped, called paramedics and provided initial care and treatment to the child, who was conscious at that time. She was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital. Her mother was at the beach with her. There is no information on her condition at this time.

Coronado beach lifeguards are part of the Coronado Fire Department and Lifeguard Services. The Coronado Police Department is investigating the incident.
